Jon J.P. Warner, M.D. joined the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Surgery Dept. on April 1, 1998 as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Partner’s Health Care System and Chief of the Harvard Shoulder Service at Partners. He was promoted to Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in June of 2004. He has offices at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He comes to Boston from the University of Pittsburgh where he was Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Director of the Shoulder Service, Assistant Director of the Center for Sports Medicine, and Co-Director of the Shoulder Research Laboratory at the Musculoskeletal Research Center.

Under his direction over the eight years when he worked there Pittsburgh became known as one of the preeminent centers for management of problems of the shoulder, and also as the premier research center for study of biomechanics of the shoulder. He is the author of over 80 peer review publications, more than 150 book chapters, and 4 books. He is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of numerous specialty societies including the Orthopaedic Research Society, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. His practice is principally devoted to the treatment of problems of the shoulder and elbow.

John Macy, MD
Head, Shoulder Section

Dr. Macy graduated with a B.S. from McGill University and received his medical degree from the UMDNJ/ New Jersey Medical School. He completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery with the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at FAHC/University of Vermont. He then trained as a National Institutes of Health post-doctoral fellow and completed his shoulder fellowship training with the Transcontinental Shoulder Fellowship in Boston and Zurich, Switzerland. He joined Associates in Orthopaedics in 2001. His area of expertise includes shoulder reconstruction and arthroscopic surgery.

David Ring, MD
Head, Elbow Section

Dr. David Ring is a hand and arm surgeon dedicated to patient care, teaching, and clinical research. He publishes and travels extensively and is world renowned. His interests are broad and include acute traumatic injury and its sequelae, common hand and upper extremity diseases, and puzzling arm illnesses.

In all facets of hand and arm care, Dr. Ring is recognized as being extremely cautious in recommending surgery and other invasive treatments. He is careful with both diagnoses and treatments, and openly discusses the limitations of modern medicine. Most importantly, he takes a multidisciplinary, team approach to hand and arm illness that considers all possibilities for increasing health and wellness.

This creative approach considers both the mind and body in addressing illness. Dr. Ring’s team includes non-operative musculoskeletal physicians and physician assistants for optimal care when surgery is not advisable; hand therapists to assist with recovery and non-operative care; and behavioral medicine specialists to optimize recovery, adaptation, resiliency, and peace of mind.

Carl Nissen, MD
Treasurer

Carl is an orthopaedic sports trained physician who graduated from Princeton with an AB in Economics. He received his MD and finished his residency in orthopaedics at the University of Connecticut in Farmington. Subsequently he completed his sports fellowship with Cincinnati

Sportsmedicine and Dr. Frank Noyes. He has served as a sports medicine physician and professor at the UConn Health Center for the past 10 years. Carl currently serves as the Director of Elite Sports Medicine. He is an avid sports fan and has played and coached lacrosse on the collegiate and club level.
