2007 Meeting Recap
Jay Peak Ski Resort, in Jay, Vermont hosted the 4th Annual Meeting of the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society the first weekend in February. Building on the success of the last 3 years, the NESES annual meeting expanded into new areas this February. Our attendance grew again this year and was the highest yet. We welcomed 2 guest professors to New England to help "diversify" our regional meeting. We were honored to have Dr. Stephen Copeland from the Reading Shoulder Unit in the United Kingdom spend 3 days with us in Vermont. Dr. Copeland, whose visit was sponsored by Biomet, presented his long term results of shoulder resurfacing and provided us with his many insights into the history and future of shoulder replacement. His debate with Dr. J.P. Warner from the Harvard Shoulder Service, our society's President, was a highlight of the meeting.
As an added bonus at this year's meeting, Dr. Scott Steinman from the Mayo Clinic Upper Extremity Service, was gracious enough to join us. Dr. Steinman brought his invaluable elbow experience to our membership as he spoke about the arthroscopic management of osteoarthritis in the elbow. His take on each topic we discussed was always welcomed and appreciated.
Last year we introduced a few new features to the meeting, the resident and fellow research awards. This year we doubled the number of presentations by our regional fellows and residents. The quality of these papers was excellent throughout. Congratulations to our newest generation of shoulder and elbow surgeons and our newest members!
We also added a sawbones lab and luncheon sponsored by Zimmer at Elevation 4000. We each had an opportunity to try out the newest instrumentation and implants while we enjoyed the best view in Vermont. This experience was a great opportunity that reminded us of the great contributions that our sponsors have made to our meeting and our society.
Timing was right this year as Jay Peak got 8 inches of fresh snow on Saturday which made for some great skiing for the rest of the weekend. We again enjoyed the unmatched hospitality of the entire Jay Peak staff and are fortunate to have such a great venue for our meeting again next year. We look forward to seeing everyone back at Jay for next year's meeting.
